In 1948 David Reed, who had lived in the Byrne-Reed House on the northeast corner for over 30 years, died in a Virginia plane crash.  Within a few years his widow, Laura Reed, had sold the house, and it was converted to office space.

As of 1960, the houses on the northwest and southeast corners were both vacant.  As the map indicates, the latter house was soon demolished.
